Anti-woke former New York Times opinion editor Bari Weiss has been confirmed as the new editor-in-chief of CBS News.

Weiss, age 41, will oversee a new debate series addressing complex issues such as immigration and the ethics of editing embryo genes, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The media tycoon issued a statement on Monday confirming her new role via an email to subscribers from her own publication, The Free Press.

‘As of today, I am the editor-in-chief of CBS News, collaborating with new colleagues on programs that have influenced American culture for years—programs like 60 Minutes and Sunday Morning — while shaping how millions of Americans read, listen, watch, and, most importantly, comprehend the news in the 21st century,’ she stated.

CBS will also acquire The Free Press for around $150 million.

Weiss will report directly to Skydance Paramount CEO David Ellison, whose company Skydance recently merged with CBS’ owners at Paramount.

Tom Cibrowski will remain CBS News’ president but Weiss will not have to report to him.

Weiss has been ‘informally consulting’ CBS for ‘a while,’ a source previously told The Daily Mail.

Bari Weiss, the anti-woke former New York Times opinion editor (pictured in November), has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief of CBS News, as reported by the New York Post.

Weiss, 41, who quit the New York Times in 2020 over its ‘illiberal environment,’ counts more than 1.25 million subscribers to The Free Press, Axios reported.

Her hiring by new Paramount Skydance CEO Ellison, the son of billionaire Trump ally Larry Ellison, is set to make waves within the CBS newsroom after a tumultuous year.

In October, Donald Trump sued the network over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris that he claimed was deceptively edited.

In the spring, 60 Minutes Executive Producer Bill Owens and CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon both resigned over concerns with the company’s direction.

Paramount ultimately agreed to pay Trump $16 million to settle the lawsuit.

That settlement paved the way for the administration’s approval of an $8billion merger between Skydance Media and Paramount last month.

Staff at CBS News are now fretting over the expected arrival of Weiss, who has regularly criticized the state of legacy media and left-leaning views.

‘There’s real fear in the building right now,’ our source said.

‘Veteran reporters who’ve been here for decades are whispering about whether they’ll still have a job by the end of the year.’

A source told The Wrap that Paramount is expecting resignations once Weiss is hired.

‘Staff morale is at an all-time low. People are scared, plain and simple,’ our source added. ‘Everyone knows a news boss mean big changes, and no one feels secure.’

Weiss has surfaced a fierce critic of legacy media after leaving the Times in 2020.

Ellison, meanwhile, is the 42-year-old son of Larry Ellison, a long-time Republican donor worth roughly $300billion.

He is an actor turned producer with no background in news, but is bolstered by his deputy, former NBCUniversal exec Jeff Shell
