Colorado Woman Survives Bull Moose Attack: The Dangers of Walking Unleashed Dogs in Wildlife Areas

DENVER (KDVR) — In a startling turn of events in Boulder County, a woman found herself hospitalized following an encounter with a moose, as reported by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).

The incident unfolded around 1 p.m. on Thursday, when CPW received an alarming call about a moose attack near Jamestown. The woman was reportedly taking a walk with her dog, who was off-leash, not far from her home when a young bull moose charged at her.

In a frightening encounter, the moose knocked the woman to the ground and trampled her repeatedly. She sustained injuries to her head and back and was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention.

This incident adds to a series of moose-related attacks in the area this year. Earlier, a cow moose and her two calves were relocated from Arvada after the cow moose inflicted serious injuries on one person and minor injuries on another.

Meanwhile, residents and wildlife enthusiasts are reminded of the unpredictable nature of moose, urging caution, especially when in areas where these majestic creatures roam freely.

CPW noted that when encountering a moose, people should give space and not approach it. Additionally, a majority of reported moose attacks involve dogs due to moose viewing them as predators or possible threats.

“Pets should be kept on a leash when recreating outdoors, especially near riparian habitats where moose prefer to live,” said CPW.

The reported attack is under investigation by CPW.
