Disney World sparks fury for rolling out 150 percent price hike

Disney World has faced intense criticism online following the announcement of a significant 150% price hike on a well-loved service.

Visitors to the cherished amusement park often indulge in a variety of purchases, ranging from plush toys for the little ones to the famous popcorn buckets, trendy Mickey ears, or stylish sweatshirts.

With such a tempting array of clothing and toys, it’s not difficult for guests to spend hundreds of dollars on souvenirs alone.

Now, for some, these memorable purchases have become considerably pricier.

Traditionally, guests could opt to ship their Disney acquisitions directly home, avoiding the hassle of navigating airports with extra bags or cramming them into already stuffed luggage—for a fee. However, this convenience has recently become more costly.

The cost depends on the value of the items, and for years, that fee was capped at $40.

However, the service just got much more expensive, and fans are not happy about it.

It was revealed this week that Disney has increased shipping rates, and the maximum has now jumped from $40 to a whopping $99.99 – a 150 percent increase.

If your items total up to $100, it now costs $19.99 to ship them anywhere in the US, items costing $100.01 to $250 cost $34.99 to ship, while items costing $250.01 to $500 costs $74.99 to ship. Anything above that value costs $99.99 to ship.

International shipping ranges from $30 to $150 depending on the value of your items, increasing by $10 increments for every $50 in merchandise value.

‘To ship items, talk to a Cast Member in any gift shop for information. There is also a dedicated shipping station in Disney Springs, attached to the Marketplace Co-Op,’ Walt Disney World News Today reported.

Fans were outraged by the news, with one pointing out that it’s the park’s ‘steepest price increase’ as of late.

‘What the heck, that’s insane,’ one shocked X (formerly Twitter) user wrote in response to the announcement.

‘Disney hates their middle class American customers. They’ve been telling us for years now,’ scathed another.

‘Disney truly hates its middle class guest,’ agreed someone else.

It comes as Disney’s ticket prices continue to soar.

Disney has doubled the cost of its one-day tickets to Disney World in the last decade

Back in 2010, a one-day adult ticket to Disney World ranged from $79 to $82, and now, 15 years on, single day tickets cost as much as $189 for Magic Kingdom – and it was recently announced that the ticket prices would be going up again in 2026.

A ticket to enter Disneyland in California when it first opened in 1955 would have cost an adult just $1, which would be $11.53 today if adjusted for inflation, while children’s tickets cost a mere 50 cents.

At the time of opening, however, guests had to additional fees for each ride. But these cost just 10 cents for kids and 23 cents for adults – the equivalent of $1.15 and $2.65 in today’s dollars.

Now, it’ll cost you anywhere from $103 to $206 for a day at Disneyland and a minimum of $119 for Disney World, depending on when you go and the type of ticket you buy.
