High-Profile Israeli Official Denies Charges in Las Vegas Sex Sting Scandal

An Israeli government official, Tom Alexandrovich, found himself embroiled in legal troubles during his visit to Las Vegas for a cybersecurity conference. He was arrested in connection with a sex sting operation and has since pleaded not guilty. A judge has scheduled his trial for the coming year.

The incident unfolded on August 6th when Alexandrovich, 38, allegedly engaged in an online conversation with an FBI decoy, who was posing as a 15-year-old girl. According to court documents, the conversation revolved around plans to meet for “sexual contact.” After the chat, Alexandrovich reportedly traveled from his hotel to a park in Henderson, as reported by KLAS, a local news affiliate.

After his arrest, Alexandrovich was able to post a $10,000 bail at the Henderson Detention Center on August 7th, and subsequently left the United States. However, earlier this month, a grand jury indicted him on charges of luring children or mentally ill persons with technology for the purpose of sexual conduct.

Prosecutors claim that Alexandrovich had suggested meeting up and discussed attending several shows along the lively Las Vegas Strip with the decoy. The conversations included a suggestion from the decoy to “bring condoms,” and they agreed to meet at Avellino Park in Henderson, which is a drive of over 20 minutes from the Strip.

During his initial arraignment in district court on Monday, Alexandrovich appeared remotely and pleaded not guilty. Clark County District Court Judge Tina Talim then scheduled his trial for March.

Alexandrovich’s attorneys said they anticipate challenging parts of the grand jury process.

In September, Alexandrovich appeared virtually in Henderson Justice Court for his initial arraignment. In that hearing, Henderson Justice Court Judge Barbara Schifalacqua ordered him to stay away from minors and stay off applications or social media sites for dating. Prosecutors did not ask Schifalacqua to increase bail, and she kept the amount at $10,000.

Earlier this month, Talim agreed to allow Alexandrovich to continue to appear remotely for his court appearances.
