WINNETKA, Ill. A famous house featured in the iconic holiday film “Home Alone” sold this week for nearly $300,000 over its asking price.

The home, which is located in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue, in Winnetka, hit the market back in May with an asking price of $5,250,000 and Coldwell Banker Realty announced Thursday that the Dawn McKenna Group had closed on it for $5,500,000.

Built in 1921, and fully renovated and expanded in 2018, the 9,126-square-foot Georgian-style home features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a basement and a three-car garage.

The north suburban home acted as the backdrop for Kevin McCallister’s antics as he attempted to thwart a pair of bumbling criminal’s attempts to burglarize the house in the 1991 film.

While the outside of the house still has many of the lovable characteristics of the McCallister home, the interior has been fully renovated and features several luxury amenities.

The buyers were represented by Lori Nieman of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate.

According to Nieman, after the home hit the market, an offer was pending within a week.

Nieman said the home’s buyers, who wished to remain private, are thrilled to be a part of film history.

“My clients are thrilled to be the new owners of the iconic ‘Home Alone’ house,” Nieman said. “The sale provided a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of cinematic history. When this extraordinary property became available for the first time in 12 years, we navigated a competitive market with multiple offers and developed the perfect strategy to make their dream a reality. As the proud stewards of this cherished home, the buyers, who wish to remain private, are excited to create their own memories while honoring its legacy and continuing its spirit of family and connection.”

While an offer was already pending by June, Dawn McKenna said the previous owners of the home were still able to celebrate one last holiday season before letting it go.

“It’s been a joy working with the sellers, and I’m delighted they had the opportunity to celebrate one last holiday in this beloved house,” Dawn McKenna said. “While it’s the end of an era for the sellers, we know the new owners will create many wonderful memories here.”

Back in 2021, fans of the iconic film had the chance to stay in the home when the owners rented it out for one night only on Airbnb.
