The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recently apprehended a Moldovan illegal immigrant with a grim past, shedding light on a chilling case that has reached U.S. shores. Victoria Sorocean, who was convicted of a heinous crime involving the torture and murder of a victim in Moldova, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles on November 4th.
Authorities were alerted to Sorocean’s presence in the U.S. when it was discovered she had been found guilty of premeditated murder with exceptional cruelty a decade ago, in 2013, according to ICE statements to Fox News. The crime, which unfolded in an apartment in Chisinau, Moldova, saw Sorocean and an accomplice inflicting severe torture on their victim. Reports indicate the duo used a stick and electrical cable to beat the victim before ultimately throwing them from a ninth-floor window, sealing their gruesome fate.
The aftermath of the brutal act led to Sorocean being sentenced to 17 years in prison. However, she managed to evade justice by fleeing Moldova, effectively becoming a fugitive from her home country’s legal system.
ICE has now taken Sorocean into custody, marking a significant development in a case that underscores the complex challenges of international law enforcement. This arrest highlights ICE’s ongoing efforts to track and detain individuals who pose a threat to public safety, especially those with violent criminal histories.
She was sentenced to 17 years in prison but fled the country to avoid serving her sentence.
Sorocean was first arrested by ICE on Jan. 10, 2020, under the first Trump administration, but she later filed multiple legal appeals and asylum claims to delay removal, DHS said.
Officials said she was ultimately released back into the U.S. in 2022 under the Biden administration.
DHS said the case highlights the failures of the previous administration, which it said allowed millions of illegal aliens, including violent criminals and murderers like Sorocean, to roam free in American neighborhoods.

“It shocks the conscience that the Biden administration released into America a cruel, violent illegal alien who tortured a human being, beat them with an electrical cable and a stick and then threw her victim from a ninth-floor window,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
“These are the types of barbaric criminal illegal aliens ICE is targeting every single day,” she added. “Seventy percent of all ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S.”

“This does not even include foreign fugitives like this convicted murderer. Under President [Donald] Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem, the world’s criminals are no longer welcome in the U.S.,” McLaughlin said.
Sorocean will remain in ICE custody pending deportation proceedings, DHS said.
