“We will not tolerate fear mongering and lies designed to panic our community,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on its X page about the rumors.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Thursday night called “serial killer in Florida” rumors many social media users have posted about in the days leading up to Thursday, “100% false.”

The sheriff’s office included a post from a social media user who talked about the rumor in an X post of their own. The post from the social media user states, “There’s a serial killer that’s in Florida and supposedly has made his way to Jacksonville, dressed as an AT&T guy. Don’t know if it’s true or not, just thought I would share. Stay safe. And stay strapped.”

JSO further emphasized that the rumor going around is a “hoax.”

“We will not tolerate fear mongering and lies designed to panic our community,” JSO’s X post states. “Please rely on verified sources for your information and think twice before sharing unverified rumors.”
