JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a man following a detailed, seven-month investigation into a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a beloved local teacher and his young son.

The incident occurred on May 16, 2025, when Mitchell Patch, a math instructor at Bayview Elementary, and his son Everett were crossing Baymeadows Road around 8:30 p.m.

During their crossing, Logan Fletcher Park, 24, allegedly hit them with his Honda Civic. Unfortunately, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue teams declared both victims deceased at the scene.

Park was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff conducted a test revealing his blood alcohol level to be .107, surpassing the legal limit. Following a thorough investigation in collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office, authorities secured a warrant for Park’s arrest.

Police say Park turned himself in on Sunday and was arrested and charged with two counts of DUI Manslaughter. He is set to make his first appearance in court on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
