A left-leaning commentator who was employed by the New York Times has caused anger by openly desiring the death of former President Joe Biden in a disturbing social media message.
Taylor Lorenz, who currently writes for the website of former MSNBC presenter Mehdi Hasan, showed her disappointment upon realizing that a hoax about Biden’s demise was not true.
The contentious reporter reacted to a tweet that falsely announced ‘RIP Joe Biden 1942-2025’ by stating, ‘This tweet got my hopes up,’ followed by a frowning emoji.
The original post stated: ‘You were always a racist f***ing monster, and will not be missed,’ alongside an old photo of Biden.
Multiple new books have detailed how Democrats conspired to lie about the 82 year-old former president’s declining health, only for it to be revealed at a June 2024 debate which forced Biden to step down and may have cost the party the election.
The message appeared to be based on Biden’s policies on the Gaza war while president – an issue Lorenz has frequently criticized.
The post quickly went viral Sunday morning as horrified users shared screenshots of her disturbing comment.
A reporter for the Free Beacon retweeted her post, writing: ‘A writer for @mehdirhasan publicly wishes death on President Biden.’
‘She’s just raw-dogging social media now,’ one user commented.

Another commented: ‘It’s hard to find words that capture just how repugnant and detestable Taylor Lorenz can be.’
‘Well he has always been a racist and not smart but, don’t wish death on him, it’ll come soon enough for him,’ another user commented.
Some agreed with her shocking take: ‘Buddy, he was a walking corpse in the White House. We all watched elder abuse in real time. The only person who wishes for Biden’s death more than anyone else is Biden himself.’
Many slammed Hasan’s media platform, saying they weren’t surprised by Lorenz’s comments after Hasan’s own history of controversial comments.
‘Mehdi Hasan’s @zeteo_news has featured multiple writers who’ve expressed joy at the thought of dead Israelis. Now his writers are expressing the same about Americans-including a former U.S. president,’ one user wrote.
In February, Hasan called for more plane crashes in America amid a spate of tragedies, then claimed he was a victim of Islamophobia after being condemned.
This isn’t the first time Lorenz has courted controversy either.
She has built a reputation for divisive commentary during her time at both the New York Times and Washington Post.
In December of last year, Lorenz doubled down on her unsympathetic comments she made about the death of UnitedHeath’s CEO.
The former Washington Post journalist sparked outrage after she appeared to celebrate Brian Thompson being gunned down in Manhattan.
The original post that caught Lorenz’s attention included the vicious statement: ‘You were always a racist f***ing monster, and will not be missed,’ alongside an old photo of Biden

Lorenz has since defended her sentiment in an interview with TMZ amid the backlash, telling critics it’s important to consider context.
‘Let me just be super clear. No, we should not murder CEOs. No, we should not go around shooting people in the street. That is the wrong lesson to take from this,’ Lorenz said.
She said her social media posts aligned with the beliefs of America’s masses.
‘When you see the entire internet, left and right, united around one thing, and that is celebrating the death of a healthcare CEO, you have to ask why.
‘UnitedHealthcare has murdered thousands of Americans by denying them coverage.
