() Authorities are slated to update the public on the passing of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, 95, his 63-year-old wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog, who were all found dead at their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home on Wednesday.

Authorities believe they may have been dead for some time; the cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Officials first said there was no foul play suspected in their deaths, though a search warrant stated that the situation was “suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation.”

Hackman’s body was found in the home’s entryway, and Arakawa was dead next to a space heater in a bathroom. Pills were scattered next to an open prescription bottle on the bathroom counter, according to a search warrant, The Associated Press reports.

Results of autopsies conducted on both bodies were not available Thursday, authorities said.

Their German Shepherd was also found dead in the bathroom closet. Two other dogs were alive on the property.

’s Paula Froelich says Hackman’s daughters are speculating carbon monoxide poisoning led to the couple’s deaths, though investigators have previously said there weren’t signs of a leak at the home.

The New Mexico Gas Co. tested gas lines at the home but didn’t find any signs of problems at the time, according to the warrant.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
