ALTON, Ill. – A man in Alton, Illinois, died on Friday after he was mauled by a dog inside his home.

The Madison County Coroner’s identified the man as Robert W. Echols, 53, of Lovejoy Lane in Alton.

Echols had lived at the home with his brother when the attack occurred. After Echols was attacked, his brother ran next door and used a neighbor’s phone to contact 911 around 5 p.m. on Friday.

The Madison County Coroner pronounced Echols dead at 6:18 p.m. that night.

After an autopsy was conducted, injuries on Echol’s body were consistent with animal bites.

No further information regarding the breed of the dog, owner of the dog, or what had instigated the attack has been released.
