Troopers said the suspect crashed into multiple vehicles during the pursuit.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A suspect is in custody after leading authorities on a chase through St. Johns County in a stolen vehicle Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An FHP release said around 9:30 a.m., troopers and deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle heading north on Interstate 95 near State Road 16 when the driver began to flee.

Troopers said the vehicle, a blue Hyundai Sonata, began to drive extremely recklessly, prompting authorities to engage in a pursuit.

The suspect vehicle exited I-95 and began to head east on County Road 210, the release states. 

Troopers said the Sonata was approaching Beachwalk, and troopers performed a PIT maneuver, which sent the vehicle into the south shoulder of CR-210 toward an embankment.

The suspect continued driving over the embankment and ended in the backyard of a residence, where he ultimately crashed into a house, the release states. The suspect fled the vehicle on foot but was taken into custody after a brief chase.
