We’ve made it through Election Day, rounded the Thanksgiving bend, and now are heading into the Christmas home stretch. There will be holiday parties and programs to attend, shopping to complete, and all manner of holiday-related tasks to cram into the next three weeks, all while the world continues to spin – seemingly off its axis – around us.

Even without a tumultuous 24/7 news cycle, it’s far too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and all the expectations and forget to take the time – to make the time – to truly revel in the season and the reason for it.  I’m running into that myself as I rifle through the multiple mental lists of To-Dos. They seem endless and overwhelming.

And they’re all rather beside the point if we’re being honest. All the sparkly decorations, melodic jingles, colorful sweet treats, and brightly wrapped presents are mere symbols of the deeper meaning beneath it all – the greatest of gifts.

So, in the coming weeks, do yourself – and those you love – a huge favor and make the time to take a step back from the chaos and remember what we’re celebrating – and why.
