BIRMIGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police are investigating a shooting after one person was shot and multiple cars were shot into Saturday night.

Shortly after 7 p.m., officers received calls of multiple shots fired at Woodlawn High School, according to Birmingham Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald. Officers arrived on the scene and located multiple vehicles that were shot into.

After speaking with community members, Fitzgerald says they learned that there was a shootout between two groups. Officers then learned that an adult female was transported to UAB Hospital in a private vehicle with a gunshot wound. Fitzgerald says she suffered serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that it has been Woodlawn alumni week and there has been various events. An argument took place between two groups, a party went to their car, retrieved a firearm, and multiple people started shooting at each other.

At least seven vehicles were shot into. Officers are searching for multiple suspects.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 334-215-7867.
