The sheriff said he heard the community’s cries on social media about the trailer park.
PALATKA, Fla. — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office condemned nearly an entire trailer park in Palatka that Sheriff Gator DeLoach said housed a “cesspool of sex offenders,” according to a social media post Friday.
The sheriff’s office began its investigation into the neighborhood on Balsam Street after deputies learned that more than 22 convicted sex offenders lived in it, PCSO said. DeLoach said all but three of the 14 trailers inside the trailer park have been condemned so far.
“We heard your cries, we heard your screams on social media,” DeLoach said in a Facebook video.
DeLoach said the trailer park was acquired in December by someone who lives outside of the county. That individual then converted the neighborhood into a “predator’s paradise,” he said.
“On my worst day on a cold day in hell would I ever allow Putnam County to become a predator’s paradise,” the sheriff said. “We won’t stand for this garbage.”
DeLoach said the “operation” has effectively been shut down.
