Since September 6, the Powerball jackpot has remained elusive, with no ticket holders securing the grand prize following the historic $1.8 billion win by two tickets.
WASHINGTON — As of Monday, the Powerball jackpot has once again rolled over, setting the stage for an even larger prize in Wednesday’s drawing.
The estimated jackpot, currently at $654 million, is expected to climb to $689 million. While no one matched all five numbers plus the Powerball on Monday, one ticket in Illinois did match the five white balls, earning its holder a cool $1 million.
The jackpot has been on an upward trajectory since the last major win in September, when two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas claimed the second-largest Powerball prize in history. These lucky winners took home a combined $1.8 billion, marking one of the most significant lottery wins ever in the United States.
The growing Powerball prize comes after the Mega Millions lottery ended its own streak of rollovers when a ticket worth nearly $1 billion was sold in Newnan, Georgia.
Monday’s $654 million jackpot had a lump sum cash value of $303.2 million. It’s still shy of the top 10 list of winning Powerball jackpots, which begins north of $750 million.
