DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) More livestock killings have been reported in Duchesne County, according to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those involved.

The latest incident was reported in Mountain Home, an unincorporated community in central Duchesne County.

“More livestock have became victims of senseless killings, latest location is Mountain Home,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “Please report suspicious activity anywhere in the county. Contact our dispatch at 435-738-2424 or the Livestock Investigator at 435-419-0021.”

The reward was initially offered in Sept., when law enforcement began investigating a livestock shooting in the Tabiona area near State Route 208, in which a cow was shot. Prior to this incident, in late July, a calf was shot and killed in the same general area.

The Sheriff’s Office said that this type of crime results in financial loss for local ranchers. Additionally, it raises concerns about livestock and residential safety within the area. Thus, they are offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and the conviction of any individual “involved in the theft, mutilation, or malicious killing of livestock.”

According to Utah Code 76-6-111, destroying livestock can range from a Class B misdemeanor to a second-degree felony, depending on the value of the livestock. Wanton destruction of livestock occurs when an actor “injures, physically alters, releases, or causes the death of livestock,” and does so knowingly, without the knowledge of the livestock owner.

Individuals with information related to these killings should call Central Dispatch at 435-738-2424 or contact the Utah Dept. of Agriculture and Food Livestock Investigator at 435-419-0021.
