San Diego police report assault by bogus rideshare driver

(FOX 5/KUSI) San Diego police are searching for a man who pretended to be a rideshare driver and sexually assaulted a woman.

Police said the assault happened around 1 a.m. on March 15 after the victim was picked up two blocks south of Crystal Pier in the Pacific Beach neighborhood.

The woman reportedly got into the backseat of a Toyota Prius that may have been a model from 2022 to 2024 that she thought was the rideshare vehicle she had requested.

The driver pretended he was and took the woman several miles away before assaulting her, police said.

The woman was able to get out of the vehicle and the suspect drove away.

Police said the man has a muscular build and shared a picture of the suspect.

Police said the man may be of mixed race and is around 30 years old, with brown eyes and shoulder-length curly hair, a large nose, mustache and a beard.

The agency said that based on his actions, investigators are trying to determine if there are more victims, and ask anyone with information about the case to call 619-5312554 or 1-888-580-8477.
