CHICAGO (WLS) — A Gulf War veteran has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2022 shooting death of a North Side liquor store owner, according to court documents.
The shooting happened at J and K Food and Liquor in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on the evening of October 17, 2022.
Sean Dunnavant, a man in his 50s, entered the store and pulled out a handgun while demanding money, police said.
Salim Khamo, a 66-year-old grandfather, was shot in the chest. Chicago Fire Department crews took him to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Dunnavant fled the store but left a cell phone at the scene. Police also said surveillance video from the store was one of the keys helping them to find the suspect.
Dunnavant was convicted on counts of murder and attempted armed robbery back in May. He was sentenced to life in prison on Friday, court documents show.
