OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) – In a recent incident, an Ogden resident found himself behind bars after authorities discovered he was in possession of multiple social security numbers and financial transaction cards.
According to court records, the chain of events unfolded on October 19 around 4:30 p.m. when police were called to investigate a shoplifting report at the Walmart on 1959 Wall Avenue. Kirk Patrick Mata-Vaquera, aged 48, had been detained by Walmart’s theft prevention officers for allegedly trying to walk out with a beer without paying.
When the officers arrived, they questioned Mata-Vaquera to hear his version of events. As per the court filings, he reportedly told them he assumed it was permissible to take items if he couldn’t afford them, believing it would be “fine.”
