CHICAGO (WLS) — The Texas Democrats who fled to Illinois earlier this month to protest congressional redistricting in their state took part in a protest rally Saturday downtown Chicago.

People in Chicago and cities across the country are rallying for the Texas lawmakers.

A crowd of hundreds of people gathered in Millennium Park on Saturday in a show of solidarity with the Texas House Democrats.
The Texas representatives have been camped out in suburban Chicago for nearly two weeks, trying to block Republican plans to redraw the state’s US House maps before next year’s midterm election.

After the rally the protesters marched to Federal Plaza.
Hundreds of similar protests were held across the country today.

Texas House Democrats left their state to block a quorum and prevent a vote on a controversial redistricting plan attempting to give Republicans up to five additional seats in the House.
