SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WRBL) — A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday at Sawyer’s Trailer Park off Lee Road 246 in Smiths Station, where a shooting resulted in a fatality, as confirmed by Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that upon responding to the gunfire, deputies discovered a 34-year-old male victim, Anthony Levi Hodge, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, Hodge, a resident of Smiths Station, was declared dead at 7:35 p.m. CT at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, according to Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.
Following standard procedure, Hodge’s remains will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a detailed autopsy, overseen by the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
In a related development, authorities identified a secondary scene near Terry’s Grocery shortly after the shooting. A significant police presence surrounded a white pickup truck parked at the store, leading to the peaceful apprehension of a person of interest.
