On his journey to Israel aboard Air Force One Sunday night, President Trump boldly announced, “The war is over,” expressing confidence that the newly brokered ceasefire could bring an end to the longstanding Middle East conflict.

During the flight, speaking to reporters, Trump reiterated, “The war is over,” signaling his optimism about the peace agreement’s potential impact.

“I believe people will act accordingly. Everyone understands their roles. This will benefit everyone,” he remarked.

He continued, “People are exhausted by this. It’s not just a recent issue; it’s been going on for centuries. I think everyone is ready for change, and the ceasefire will endure.”

These comments came mere hours before the release of the first hostages, which occurred around noon local time on Monday, equivalent to about 1 a.m. Eastern Time.

The first seven living hostages were handed over to the Red Cross in Gaza, where they were set to make their journey out of the Palestinian territory and back to Israel.

Crowds from New York to Tel Aviv to Gaza have chanted Trump’s name and praised him for the cease-fire deal, which he said will end the two-year war between Israel and Hamas.

The first stage of Trump’s 20-point plan was a cease-fire and the withdraw of Israeli troops from much of Gaza.

The second stage is the release of hostages, happening Monday morning.

All 20 living hostages were due to be freed by Hamas.

The bodies of 28 who were killed following the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks are to be returned in stages over the next 10 days.

Trump’s plan also requires Hamas to disarm and step down from power.

A technocratic body would take over the governance of Gaza.
