In West Augustine on Saturday night, candles illuminated North Orange Street and orange and green balloons filled the air for 22-year-old Tre Lyons.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Less than a week after two men were found shot to death inside a vehicle in St. Johns County, the family of one of the victims held a vigil in his honor.

In West Augustine on Saturday night, candles illuminated North Orange Street and orange and green balloons filled the air for 22-year-old Tre Lyons.

“We just want justice for Tre,” Tre Lyon’s dad Craig Lyons said.

The St. Johns Sheriff’s Office said on Monday, Tre Lyons, 22, and Cody Bennett, 21, were found shot to death inside a car on the 500 block of North Orange Street. Thus far, the Sheriff’s Office said the investigation shows the shooting was an isolated incident and no suspects have been named. The Sheriff’s Office says detectives are working nonstop on the case.

“He wasn’t built like that. He wasn’t like that. He’s not no gangster, he ain’t on that,” Craig Lyons said, the father of Tre Lyons.

Craig Lyons said he is devastated over the death of his son. Tre Lyons was a father of three children and a graduate of Pedro Menendez High School. His father says he wanted to join the military.

“He’s played football his whole life,” Craig Lyons said. “He’s the humblest kid out of all my kids. That’s why this one hurt the most, you know, just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

During a time of grief, there were words of encouragement.

“For everything, there’s a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant at a time to harvest, time to kill and a time to heal.”

Now, what was a crime scene, is now a makeshift memorial. Above everything, Craig Lyons wants his son’s killer to be brought to justice.

“I don’t want my son’s murder to be an unsolved mystery,” Lyons said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at crimetips@sjso.org. You can also report information to Crime Stoppers anonymously. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.
