JEA wants customers to be able to stay warm during a cold snap Friday.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With very low temperatures expected to reach Jacksonville this week, JEA has announced it will suspend disconnections for non-payment on Friday, ensuring residents have access to electricity during the freeze warning.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning and cold weather advisory for Duval County and surrounding areas, with wind chills expected to make temperatures feel like they’re in the 20s overnight.
JEA says that, in accordance with policy, anyone who has not paid their bill will not have their service disconnected. “We understand that unexpected expenses can arise, and we want to ensure our customers have the opportunity to stay warm and seek assistance if needed.”
Help Available for Customers Struggling with Bills
JEA is encouraging customers experiencing financial hardship to take advantage of bill payment solutions:
- Payment Extensions: Customers needing more time to pay their bill can request an extension at jea.com/assistance or call (904) 665-6000.
- Payment Arrangements: Those struggling with their balance can set up a monthly installment plan via jea.com/assistance or by calling (904) 665-6000.
- Guest Pay: Friends or family members wishing to help a JEA customer with their bill can use the Guest Pay option at jea.com/guestpay.
Additional Community Support
For customers in need of further financial relief, United Way of Northeast Florida’s 2-1-1 program provides utility bill assistance. Residents can call 211 or (904) 632-0600, or visit unitedway.org for more information.
With freezing conditions expected to persist through Saturday morning, JEA urges customers to prepare by keeping faucets dripping to prevent frozen pipes and taking measures to stay warm safely.
