The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the car that hit the woman remained at the scene following the crash and did not show any signs of impairment.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman died Monday night after being hit while walking across a street on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford told First Coast News the crash happened in the 900 block of Cassat Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m.

The woman, who Hungerford said was in her late-40s, was walking eastbound across Cassat Avenue when she was struck by a black two-door Toyota that was traveling northbound in the outside lane on Cassat.

Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene, and pronounced the woman dead upon arrival, Hungerford said.

Hungerford further explained that the driver of the Toyota remained at the scene following the crash, they did not show any signs of impairment, and that they are cooperating with detectives amid JSO’s ongoing investigation on the incident.

This crash marks as the 58th traffic fatality in Duval County for 2025 and the 9th involving a pedestrian, according to Hungerford.
