WOOD DALE, Ill. (WLS) — Wood Dale police and SWAT teams have responded to a barricade situation on Ash Street Tuesday night.
Police said officers were called to Ash Street between Irving Park and Commercial around 4:30 p.m. after receiving calls about shots fired.
Police said they made contact with the residents involved in the shots fired and they became uncooperative and refused to come out and speak with police.
At that point Wood Dale police called in the MERIT Metro SWAT for assistance. While they said initially they confirmed there were multiple people inside the house, as of 9:45 p.m. they could not confirm how many people still remained in the home, though they know there are still people there.
Police said there was a funeral in the family who live in the home and that it’s a highly emotional time for them, but they are still investigating the cause of the reports of shots fired from earlier in the day.
They do not know if the people involved are related. They said they do not believe there are any hostages involved and they do not believe any children are in the home.
Witnesses told ABC7 Eyewitness News they heard at least nine rounds of shots fired.
Police said no injuries have been reported. They have been in contact with the people in the home.
Police said several people are in custody in related to the incident. They would not say exactly how many, but said it was more than two.
No further details have been released. Residents are being advised to avoid the area.
