Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s recent power surge has landed him in the Home Run Derby.
The Yankees’ All-Star second baseman was announced on Thursday as the final participant for Monday’s Derby at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Chisholm hit two home runs on Wednesday, bringing his season total to 17 and seven in his last 12 games. He openly expressed interest in participating in the event if MLB invited him, which they eventually did.
He joins an eight-man field alongside Ronald Acuña Jr., Byron Buxton, Junior Caminero, Oneil Cruz, Cal Raleigh, Brent Rooker and James Wood.
Chisholm’s presence in the Home Run Derby promises to add excitement, as he is the first Yankee to take part since Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez in 2017.
Concerns linger for the Yankees, as they hope Chisholm completes the event without any health setbacks. He was sidelined for the month of May due to an oblique strain and has been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury in recent weeks.
