On Thursday night, Davide Giri, a Columbia computer science Ph.D. student, was brutally stabbed near the Manhattan campus.

 

Giri came to the United States to study in 2013 after graduating from a number of universities in Italy.

He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering.

Giri was an Italian immigrant who had moved to the United States eight years before to further his education.

 

Davide Giri Stabbed To Death: How Did It Happen?

Davide Giri, a Columbia University graduate student, was stabbed to death near the Ivy League school’s New York City campus while on his way home after soccer practice.

He was stabbed in the abdomen soon before 11 p.m. Thursday at West 123 St. and Amsterdam Ave., at the north end of Morningside Park, according to the New York Police Department.

At Mount Sinai-Saint Hospital, Giri was pronounced dead. The incident has gone viral online, with people debating it on a variety of social media platforms.

They sent their heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and condemned the escalating gang violence in the neighborhood.

So yet, just one person has been apprehended as a suspect in Davide Giri’s murder: Vincent Pinkney. The inquiry is still underway, and it is hoped that all of the perpetrators will be captured.
