Born on November 9, 1955, Dotrice was born into a theatre family. Her parents, Kay and Roy Dotrice were Shakespearean actors, and both her sisters were also actresses.
Dotrice was only a toddler when her father joined the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre and by the age of four, she made her debut in an RSC production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle.
