Who is Lisa Daugherty ?
Lisa Daugherty is charged with financial exploitation of a former Oak Landing Assisted Living resident. According to authorities, she was employed as a care technician and her elderly victim was a resident of the facility.
Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the arrest of Lisa Daugherty. She is 54 years old and lives in Attalla. Daugherty was arrested on warrant by agents from the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, accompanied by Boaz police, Etowah County Sheriff’s deputies and the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.
Daugherty is charged with two counts of first-degree financial exploitation of the elderly resident: one for $ 8 million in currency and another for $ 1 million in real estate. Daugherty was booked into the Etowah County Jail Wednesday afternoon. She is being held on $ 1 million cash bond.

Lisa was arrested Wednesday on two counts of financial exploitation of the elderly for allegedly victimizing a former resident of Oak Landing Assisted Living in Attalla, where she worked as a care technician. State Attorney General Steve Marshall said Daugherty is accused of stealing $ 8 million in cash from the victim while she takes another $ 1 million in real estate.
Two other women, Daugherty’s 35-year-old daughter, Brooke Crawford, and her ex-partner, Jerenita Johnson, 52, were also charged with receiving stolen property in the first degree totaling $ 600,000. The investigation by Marshall’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit followed a referral from the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama.
“No further information about the investigation or the alleged crimes of the defendants other than those listed in the arrest warrants can be released at this time,” Marshall’s office said in a statement Wednesday.
Daugherty of Attalla remained incarcerated Thursday on $ 1 million bond, online records show. She faces between two and 20 years in prison if she is convicted, as well as up to $ 60,000 in fines.
Crawford and Johnson, who were held on a $ 5,000 bond, also face up to 20 years and $ 30,000 in fines if convicted. No information was released about Daugherty’s alleged victim, but a Marshall spokesperson identified her as a woman when she was contacted by Post.
Daugherty was named in a four-count federal indictment in 2019, but court records cited by AL.com indicate the case was later dismissed.
At the time, the former facility supervisor was charged with wire fraud, money laundering, filing a false tax return, and theft of government property for allegedly embezzling funds from the victim to pay for his lavish lifestyle, which includes buying several vacation homes. . Court documents showed that Daugherty obtained the power of attorney from the victim before arranging a transfer to Oak Landing. Then, she allegedly began transferring the victim’s assets to herself in January 2017, eventually purchasing a house, several vacation homes, cars and to pay for her daily living expenses, authorities said.
“This case highlights the extent to which some people will financially exploit those who are among the most vulnerable in our community,” Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Patrick Davis said in a statement announcing the 2019 charges.
