Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, Sky Sports colleagues in the studio, have traded banter online over the World Cup.

Neville is currently working out in Qatar covering the tournament as a studio guest for ITV and beIN Sports, whilst Carragher is following the World Cup from home.

The former Liverpool man tweeted out a screenshot of Neville’s claim that ‘Players aren’t fearful of Lionel Messi anymore’, after a poor run of international form from the 35-year-old Argentine star.

However, Messi turned in a good performance in his country’s 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday, and scored the opener with a blistering strike from 25 yards out.

Carragher tagged the picture with the comment: ‘My mate @GNev2 is having as bad a tournament as Infantino! #WorldcupQatar2022’

Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s head honcho, has come under criticism for a number of issues which have arisen from the build-up to the tournament in Qatar, and the delivery of events in the country over the opening week.

However, once he had finished with his night’s work for ITV, the former Manchester United defender was quick to fire back a response to Carragher.

Neville wrote: ‘Better one than you back home with no one to work for!’

Carragher and Neville have often traded opinions on Sky Sports during their coverage of the Premier League, but an increase of distance between the pair has not dampened their ability to bicker.

Messi’s Argentina have kept themselves in contention for qualifying for the knockout phase with their victory, and go into their match with Poland knowing a win secures their spot in the last-16.
