Veronica Yoko Plebani is an Italian snowboarder and canoeist who specializes in Paralympic competitions. She said that she did not set out to prove a point after her illness, but she figured out how many amazing things her body could do because of sports. Veronica started snowboarding even before she suffered from meningitis.
Veronica Yoko Plebani has represented Italy in several international tournaments including, the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, 2017 Besancon ITU Paratrinthlon World Cup, and 2017 ITA Paratriathlon National Championships.
What Happened To Veronica Yoko Plebani?
Veronica Yoko Plebani contracted fulminant bacterial meningitis on April 27, 2011. She survived it, but it resulted in the loss of phalanges of the hands and toes. Veronica was just 15 years at the time, and it left her legs and arms severely impaired and scarred.
She was terrified to see her friends again looking so different. According to an interview with Vogue, the support of Veronica’s family and friends got her through it.
