Joao Roberto Tavares is the father of Liverpool and Brazil midfielder Fabinho. His father, Joao Roberto Tavares, is believed to have been a factory worker while his mother, Rosangela Tavares, was a former cleaner. The couple reportedly had three children of which Fabinho is the youngest. Fabinho was born in Campinas, Sao Paulo, and left his native country to join Portuguese club Rio Ave then Real Madrid on loan in 2012.

Liverpool and Brazil midfielder Fabinho’s father, Joao Roberto Tavares, passed away in August 2021, the Brazilian midfielder’s wife, Rebeca Tavares, confirmed the tragic news on social media on Friday 20 August 2021.

Rebeca wrote on Instagram: “Father-in-law, you will always be remembered with that smile and passion. I thank God for the privilege of having known you. Your grandchildren will know the amazing grandfather they had. I love you father-in-law! I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 #RIP.”

Fabinho’s wife Rebeca Tavares also shared a post on Twitter, confirming the sad news. She wrote: “Morning y’all. For those who are asking on Instagram …. Fabinho’s father has passed. He will be missed.”

Earlier this month, Fabinho shared a picture on Instagram of himself with his father wearing his Champions League winners medal. He wrote in the caption: “Happy Father’s Day, Papa. Thanks for being an example for me. May God continue to bless you and use you. Love you.”
