Scream is, as we all know, an iconic franchise, and has been since 1996 when the original feature was released. Since then, the series has only become more popular and, with Scream (2022) right around the corner, the hype for the franchise is at a high.

Since the first trailer for the upcoming Scream movie was released around two months ago, horror fans everywhere could hardly believe their eyes, as a mini masterpiece unfolded before them.

The trailer showcased a film that clearly understands how to modernise an older franchise and make it relevant in today’s world. Scream (1996) was an incredible, outstanding movie, one that is clearly not done making its mark.

It has been regarded as one of the best horror films ever made, and for a multitude of reasons. Scream (1996) understood what it was, and recognised how horror fans at the time felt about that genre; it was a stroke of pure genius.

Now, in 2022, the fifth Scream movie is less than a week away as of today (January 8th, 2022), and more behind-the-scenes videos, or featurettes, are being released by Paramount Pictures in order to not only get the fans excited, but to relive the original movie and appreciate it for the masterpiece it was.

The latest clip is just over a minute long, and shows scenes from 1996’s Scream as well as 2022’s upcoming release. It is a clever way to draw comparison between the two, as audiences can clearly see that 2022’s Scream is an updated version, but one that pays respects to the source material and honours original director, Wes Craven’s vision.

The original cast members, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette were pivotal points to this film’s success, and to its creation. For Scream to work, Sidney Prescott (Campbell), Gale (Cox) and Dewey (Arquette) must be included in the narrative.

In the BTS video, it is said that Dewey is rather prominent within the film, which will be great to see. His journey seems significant, so it will be brilliant to see this highlighted upon the film’s release.

We hear Sidney state that she’s “seen this movie before,” which may be a nod to the other four within the franchise; however, Ghostface replies with “Not this movie, Sidney”, suggesting that 2022’s Scream will be something that both she and the audience haven’t yet witnessed.

Scream will be in cinemas on January 14th, 2022.
