Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could sign for Chelsea and haunt Mikel Arteta's Arsenal

London is calling once again for former Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Chelsea snapping him up.

The Blues signed him on deadline day from Barcelona and he now has the chance to prove the Gunners were wrong to let him go – just like ex-Arsenal man, Olivier Giroud, did.

As further revealed in Amazon Prime’s recent docuseries ‘All or Nothing: Arsenal’, Aubameyang was banished from the Emirates last season after Gunners boss Mikel Arteta grew tired of his then-captain’s behaviour.

Known by Arsenal’s director of football operations Richard Garlick as a ‘catalogue of misdemeanours’, Arteta kept a ‘file’ recording each of Aubameyang’s disciplinary cautions.

And when the Gunners skipper returned to training late after visiting his mother in France, Arteta stripped him of his captaincy, and banished him from training with the team.

Later, after he was dropped from matchdays squads, he was released and eventually signed for Barcelona on a permanent deal that January.

But now he’s back and at Stamford Bridge, he has the chance to emulate exactly what now-AC Milan striker Giroud did to Arsenal whilst at the Bridge – scoring against the club that let him go and winning trophies.

In search of regular game time, Giroud had asked then-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for more minutes to make sure he was part of France’s team for the 2018 World Cup.

But his request was to no avail, and he soon landed himself a deal at Stamford Bridge in the January prior to the tournament.

Speaking to The Sun afterwards, he said: “When I had the opportunity to join Chelsea and stay in the Premier League, it was easy.

“That Arsenal page is finished now and it’s a new chapter for my career. Now I am 100 per cent focused on the Blues and achieving our targets.

“I am at the best club in England in recent years because Chelsea have won more trophies than anyone else. Chelsea are a massive club and we want to challenge for the title every single year.”

The Blues only managed three Premier League wins for the rest of that season, but Giroud’s bold statement soon paid off.

He went on to win the World Cup with his country.

Then, at the end of the 2019 campaign, Giroud opened the scoring against his old club Arsenal in the Europa League final, kicking off the Blues’ 4-1 victory.

Most notably, the former Chelsea star also won the Champions League and the FA Cup, before he moved on to Italy in 2021.

In addition to this, the Frenchman finished above his old club Arsenal with Chelsea in the Premier League for the entire time he was at the Bridge.

Of course Arsenal now seem to have found the perfect striker in Gabriel Jesus.

But with Aubameyang at Chelsea – who ended the season in a higher rank than the Gunners last season again – the former Emirates hero has the chance to follow in Giroud’s footsteps and show Arteta what he’s missing.

Even Arsenal legend Ray Parlour fears what might happen.

“For me [Aubameyang is] a no brainer for Chelsea, it really is,” he told talkSPORT before the deal was signed. “[Timo] Werner has gone back to RB Leipzig, so they’re lacking goals.

“So Aubameyang will definitely score. Before he signed his new contract at Arsenal, he was brilliant. He won the FA Cup for Arsenal on his own.

“So he’d be a good signing, if you can get him for one season, he’ll be coming back to prove people wrong that’s what he’ll be trying to do.”
