Liverpool could have a top player on their hands if they complete the loan signing of Arthur Melo, talkSPORT has been told.

The Juventus midfielder looks set for a loan switch to Anfield, with Liverpool currently experiencing a number of injuries in midfield.

Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita have sustained knocks, while Jordan Henderson sustained a hamstring injury in their win over Newcastle.

As a result, Arthur is set to arrive at Anfield on a season-long loan deal after the Reds struck a deal with the Italian giants.

The Brazilian star is now travelling to Merseyside to complete a medical before his deal can be announced, however there’s unlikely to be any issue with getting the move over the line before the 11pm deadline.

The 26-year-old moved to Turin in 2020 from Barcelona and has made 63 appearances in that time.

Arthur has struggled to cement his place in the Juve first-team, with injuries stunting his progress throughout his career.

However, Italian football journalist Tancredi Palmeri says Arthur was one of the best internal midfielders in the world back in 2019.

Palmeri added that Arthur can be a useful player for the Reds this term should he put his injury woes behind him.

“When Arthur won the Copa America with Brazil three years ago he was at Barcelona and he in my opinion was one of the best three or five internal midfielders in the world behind Toni Kroos, Thiago Alcantara and very, very few others,” Palmeri told talkSPORT.

“The problem is that last year he was constantly injured. It’s all about his physical recovery, if he manages to recover well he can definitely be a starter for Liverpool. But it’s all about that.”
