Breonna Taylor Case Update – Breonna Taylor’s family has joined demonstrators and other supporters to mark the two-year anniversary of her death in a botched police raid.
Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American woman, was fatally shot in her Louisville, Kentucky, apartment on March 13, 2020, when three white Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers, Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove, forced entry as part of a drug-dealing investigation.
Taylor’s shooting by police officers sparked a wave of protests across the country against police brutality and racism.
After an autopsy, her cause of death was determined to be homicide. According to the death certificate, she died as a result of five gunshot wounds to the body.
Breonna Taylor Case Update – What Really Happened?
Breonna Taylor was murdered in a bungled raid by the Louisville Metro Police Department two years ago in March 2020. Thousands of people marched through the streets of New York City and invaded Jefferson Square Park, renaming it Injustice Square, in protest of Taylor’s death and a grand jury’s determination that no cops would be indicted in her shooting.
Taylor’s death, and the subsequent fight for justice in her honor, was a watershed moment for certain Louisville activists, both professionally and personally.
According to activists, the past two years have been marked by tiny victories for justice and police reform, as well as discontent with local and state government.
Tamika Palmer, Taylor’s mother, stood in the middle of a tribute of paintings, posters, and flowers. As a mob chanted Taylor’s name, she let go of the last balloon, staring up towards the sky.
Murder – Who Shot Breonna Taylor?
Myles Cosgrove, a Louisville Metro Police officer accused of firing the fatal shot at Breonna Taylor, was battling to reclaim his job. In connection with the event, he and another officer were fired.
Kenneth Walker, Taylor’s boyfriend, was inside the flat with her when the plainclothes officers knocked and subsequently forced admission
The policemen said they made an announcement before forcing access, but Walker claimed he didn’t hear anything and mistook the officers for invaders, firing a warning shot at them.
Officers fired 32 bullets in response to the shot that wounded Mattingly in the leg. Walker was unharmed, but Taylor, who was standing behind Walker, was killed by six bullets.
Breonna Taylor Aunt Bianca Austin And Family Explored
According to news reports and social media, Breonna Taylor’s aunt, Bianca Austin, attended US President Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington, D.C.
Austin has been a vocal supporter of Taylor, demanding justice for her niece and criticizing the attorney general’s decision not to bring criminal charges against the officers who fired and killed her niece to a grand jury.
When Louisville police officers tragically shot Taylor while she was sleeping in her home in 2020, a movement to eliminate no-knock warrants erupted. The fight is still going on two years later.
