Victoria Beckham, 48, sparked speculation that there was trouble in paradise when eagle-eyed fans spotted that a tattoo bearing her husband David Beckham’s initials had disappeared from her wrist. The ex-Spice Girl turned fashion entrepreneur has now finally spoken on the question that’s been on everyone’s lips – why she had her signature inking removed.
The fashion designer insisted that there was no deeper meaning about her marriage behind the removal, explaining that she had simply grown tired of the aesthetic.
“I had these tattoos [done] a long, long time ago, and they just weren’t particularly delicate,” she explained in an interview on the Today show in the USA.
“My husband has so many gorgeous tattoos, and the children do, and they’re very fine, and they’ve had them created by the most phenomenal artists.”
However, she didn’t feel the same about her own, lamenting: “Mine were just a little bit thick, and they were bleeding, a little bit, and just not looking as pretty.”

Admitting that her “DB” tattoo had begun to turn a “blue-ish colour”, she decided she had to take action and have it lasered off.
“[It] just didn’t look so nice. It doesn’t mean anything more than that,” she reiterated.
“I think the media started to speculate, was I leaving my husband? No. I was just a bit sick of the tattoo. It’s as simple as that.”
Victoria had confirmed that her 23 year marriage was not on the rocks in spite of her decision to get David’s initials removed, instead of having tattoo maintenance done to revive it.
The speculation around the removal reached such heights last month that when she posted a video on Instagram promoting her latest lip tint, the comments steered towards the absence of Victoria’s tattoo rather than the makeup collection she was discussing.

However, Victoria has always had fewer tattoos than her extremely well inked husband, who, like her son Brooklyn, has many more tattoos on his body than the years he has lived.
David is estimated to have around 80 tattoos, while Brooklyn has actually outdone his ex-footballer dad in the body art stakes by boasting more than 100.
In contrast, Victoria’s only tattoos have been in honour of her husband, their marriage, and the four children they share.
For instance, she’d had DB tattooed on her wrist, plus the words “Together forever, eternally” in Hebrew to mark their nuptials.
She also had another inking to mark the date they had their wedding vows renewed on May 8 2006, represented by the Roman numerals VIII-V-MMVI.
The star had also had five stars inked on her back to represent herself, David, and their three sons, prior to the arrival of youngest child Harper.
Meanwhile, on the back of her neck, she’d had a Hebrew phrase from the Song of Solomon 6:3 inked, translating to “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine”.
Finally, the Latin phrase “De integro” which features on her left wrist, translating to “again from the start”, is believed to have marked a time when she and David had made a fresh start in the USA.
Some speculated that the woman formerly known as Posh Spice may not have been taken seriously in the fashion industry if she’d become too heavily inked.
It is believed that a more minimalist aesthetic for body art is preferred in the high fashion world, although it has recently become increasingly diverse.
