The Winnipeg Jets will welcome the New York Rangers to Canada Life Centre to kick off their NHL campaign on Friday. Winnipeg had an excellent preseason where they won four games and lost just one. Their last game ended in a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames as two goals from Pierre-Luc Dubois and a goal each from Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers sealed the deal.

Defenseman Nate Schmidt spoke to the press after their last practice and said, “When you have this many days between your first game, you have to work this hard, you have to expect that. When you know it’s coming and guys can expect it, they have a little more fun with it. They enjoy that grind.”

On the other hand, the New York Rangers have started their season like a house on fire as they recorded two back to back wins with their last one coming in a 7-3 drubbing of the Minnesota Wild. Chris Kreider scored twice and Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox, Vincent Trochek, Filip Chytil and Kaapo Kakko scored one each as the Rangers scored a comprehensive win.

Goaltender Igor Shesterkin had an incredible game as he made 33 saves from the 36 shots he faced. In doing that, he notched the 64th win of his career and his first ever against the Minnesota Wild
