Brian May, who once declared that Brexit was the “stupidest move” the UK had ever made, announced to the world that he was making new friends over in France in a bid to escape British politics, As Prime Minister Liz Truss teeters on the edge of power, the 72-year-old Queen star is putting all of that behind him and enjoying some quality time in the wine capital of Bordeaux.
Posting tranquil photos of himself perched beside the river, Brian told his 3.1 million Instagram followers that he still considers himself to be a proud European.
“A moment of peace. And precious time making new friends in beautiful Bordeaux,” he wrote.
“For a moment, all the embarrassing humiliation of Britain by our Government seemed far away.
“I’m proud and happy still to be a European!!!” he concluded after his photo update.

Last week, Liz Truss’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng, was sensationally sacked after it was decided that his tax cut policies for Britain’s wealthiest could wreak havoc on the country.
He had been in his position for just 38 days when Liz was forced to ask him to resign, in a bid to cling to her Prime Ministerial role.
Jeremy Hunt then reversed almost all of the policies that Truss had promised she’d implement, leading some to call the party’s current status “undemocratic”.
As pleas rose within the Tory Party for Truss to resign, and many called for a general election to appoint a new leader, the world of British politics seemed more chaotic than ever.
Musician and astronomer Brian May has long had an interest in the ups and downs of the country’s politics.

Back in 2019, he had told the world via Instagram that he hoped Brexit would “go away” and hit out at David Cameron for instigating the referendum in the first place.
He wrote: “I’m dreaming of a Brexit-free Christmas… I wonder if I’m the only one praying tonight for a miracle which will make Brexit, deal or no deal, simply go away?
“The legacy of the vain, arrogant and badly-advised David Cameron was a referendum which never should have happened.”
He added that he felt Brits had been forced to vote on an issue they had known “NOTHING about”, and blasted that the result of the vote wasn’t “legally binding”.
“Of a 70 percent turnout, 52 percent voted to break away from Europe. That’s roughly 37 percent of the electorate,” he blasted.
“But on the basis of that fragile outcome, successive leaders, fearful and hungry for power, have attempted to carry out the wishes of that 37 percent, pretending that they were serving democracy and the ‘will of the people’.
“The result is this country attempting to make the stupidest move it has ever made.”
Brian added that he felt Brexit had caused years of “misery and chaos” as the political turmoil of leaving the EU continued to unfold.
He raged in his Instagram rant that, without European status, Britain would be a “feeble” small island without support.
The star passionately declared that he didn’t know “a single person who thinks that the Brexit on offer is a good idea”.
Fortunately for the much-loved Queen guitarist, he is now in his beloved Bordeaux enjoying some rest and recreation while surrounded by vineyards and river scenes – and watching the British government’s turmoil seems a little further away.
