After her boyfriend of four years cheated on her, a woman’s boss sent her a bizarre email.
She worked at a bakery, and her coworker shared the message in a viral Reddit post in the “Antiwork” forum. It received over 31,000 upvotes. After the woman and her boyfriend broke up, her boss sent her an email with some so-called advice.
The message from the boss stated, “I wanted to send this before you came in so you could absorb it. He was a part of your life but he is NOT all your life. We need you here and present at the bakery.”
The boss asked her to basically stop being sad at work because they were in a small space, “and it gets oppressive for someone to be moping around.” The boss said they normally wouldn’t let such behavior go on for so long, but they understand that she was hurt.
“Keep work work and personal personal. You know we are a bit woo woo here and the thought of all that sadness going into cakes isn’t something we want,” the boss said.
The employer advised her to go to therapy but warned her that it was “unhealthy to embrace that helplessness and that he ruined everything. He does not have the power to do that. You are in charge of your life!”
The woman “started looking for another job immediately,” according to the coworker.
Redditors thought the employer crossed a line.
“I get that the letter is trying to come across friendly but tbh I just find it unprofessional,” a person replied.

“Can confirm, I once ate some woo woo cake and it made me sad,” someone joked.
“We are ‘woo woo’ here and concerned about your emotions leaking into our cakes, but don’t care about your actual emotions. So absurd,” another wrote.
