The world was shocked when news broke that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott were expecting their first child together when the Life of Kylie star was just 20 — but she was open about her desire to be a mom long before welcoming her daughter and son.
“Being a young mom just means we met a little early and I get to love you a little longer,” Jenner captioned an Instagram post featuring photos of her eldest child, Stormi (born February 2018) on Mother’s Day in May 2022.
Jenner kept her pregnancy with Stormi under wraps. Us Weekly confirmed that she and Scott shared the happy news with their friends in September 2017 (a month after the reality star’s 20th birthday), but the Kylie Cosmetics founder didn’t let fans in on the news until she gave birth to her daughter.
“I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions,” Jenner wrote on Instagram days after welcoming Stormi. “I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. … I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could.”
The decision seemed to follow her plans to keep her family life private. As a teenager, Jenner thought she would raise her children away from the bright lights of Hollywood after starting her own reality TV career at age 9.
“I would love to have a family and build a home with a farm in Malibu Canyon and just have my kids and throw away my phone,” she explained to ELLE U.K. in 2015. “Just really, like, live my life and not do this anymore.”
However, the Kendall + Kylie designer didn’t seem to have any plans to run away from Tinseltown after signing on to star in Hulu’s The Kardashians, which debuted in April 2022. The show followed her through the final months of her pregnancy with her son, which wasn’t nearly as private as the first time she was with child.
Us confirmed in August 2021 that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum was expecting baby No. 2 with the “Goosebumps” performer, and she debuted her bump the following month via social media before wearing belly-hugging outfits at New York Fashion Week.
Since welcoming her baby boy in February 2022, the Kylie Skin founder has been honest about the struggles of adjusting after giving birth. “I just want to say to my postpartum moms, postpartum has not been easy,” Jenner said in a March 2022 Instagram Story. “This experience for me, personally, has been a little harder than with my daughter.”
The family expansion took a toll on her body and mind. “It’s OK not to be OK,” the California native added. “Once I realized that … I was putting some pressure on myself and I just keep reminding myself, ‘I made a whole human, a beautiful healthy boy’ and we have to stop putting pressure to be back, not even physically, just mentally after birth.”

Logging Off
Kylie thought she’d leave social media after becoming a mom. “Once I have a kid I’m not going to be on Instagram,” she told ELLE U.K. in 2015, when she had about 46 million Instagram followers. ”You know, I’ll probably delete my Instagram and just… I don’t know, live life.” She was still using the photo sharing platform regularly in 2022, with over 336 million followers.

The Right Role Models
Kylie is surrounded by strong women to help guide her and support her through her motherhood journey. In May 2015, the E! star penned a sweet note to sister Khloé Kardashian on Mother’s Day. “Thank you for being you & being another mother figure to me my whole life and doing the same for our nieces and nephews,” she captioned the heartfelt photo collage on Instagram. “Whoever, one day, gets to have you for a mom will be the luckiest in the world.”

More Girls!
She grew up with four sisters, so it’s no wonder that Jenner wanted to have girls of her own. “When I look to the far future and decide to have kids, I need to have a million girls,” she told Teen Vogue in May 2015. “Ten years from now — in 2025 — I hope I have a kid.”

Although the media personality has grown up in the limelight, she hoped to lead a more secluded life in the future. “When I’m like 30, I want to go off the map, have a family and live in Malibu with a farm, and just raise my own chickens,” the young entrepreneur told Interview magazine in December 2015.

“I feel like 30’s too late [for a kid],” the social media stunner told dad Caitlyn Jenner in a January 2016 KUWTK episode. “Every psychic said I’m only gonna have two kids.”
After welcoming Stormi, Kylie started to want more. “I see myself having four kids,” the makeup mogul told Kim Kardashian in a January 2020 YouTube video. “I just don’t know when. I don’t have a timeline for this, and I don’t know if I’m going to have four kids tomorrow or if I’m going to have four kids in seven years.”

Loving the Changes, Diapers and All
“I think more about the future because of her. Every time I leave and I’m stressed about leaving her, I’m like, ‘I’m doing it for you,’” she told sister Kim in a May 2018 Evening Standard interview. “Everyone says you change completely when you become a mom, but I really feel the same, just better. So I don’t know what really has completely changed my world, besides her, of course. But I feel like it’s only gotten better. You’re less selfish — and I actually enjoy changing diapers. Teaching Self-Love
Kylie has admitted to being self-conscious and even undergoing cosmetic procedures to deal with her insecurities. However, after just a few months of motherhood, she was making reconsidering her perspective.
“Even my ears, I always felt like they stuck out too far, and [Stormi] has the same ears as me and so now I love my ears,” Jenner explained to Vogue Australia in August 2018. “It’s just having a different outlook on life so I can pass that on to her. I want to be an example for her. What kind of example would I be if she said she didn’t like her ears, and then I didn’t like them either? I just want to teach her that. I’m trying to love myself more.”

“You can be sexy and still be a badass mom,” she told Scott in a September 2019 Playboy interview.
She told her partner, “You remind me that motherhood and sexuality can coexist, and just because you embrace your sexuality doesn’t mean you have loose morals or you’re not a good mother.”
