On January 2, 2023, the 24-year-old collapsed on the field during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

What Happened To Damar Hamlin?

Monday’s Week 17 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills saw Damar Hamlin make a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.

With less than six minutes left in the game, Hamlin stood up after the tactical attack but quickly collapsed onto the pitch.

CPR was started on the scene by medical personnel. He was taken from Paycor Stadium to a hospital in Cincinnati on a stretcher and backboard.

Joe Danneman, a spokesperson for FOX Sports, tweeted the following: “Damar Hamlin is not breathing on his own, but I’ve been told he has a pulse. He’s being driven over to UC. AED and CPR were required on the scene.”

Is He Still Alive?

According to Fox 19’s Tricia Macke, “I am told that Damar Hamlin has been intubated and is currently listed in critical condition,” she wrote on Twitter at 9.53pm.

He is still alive and he is reportedly being treated in a Level 1 trauma hospital, which, as per Brett Kollmann, “means they have a crash team on stand-by 24/7 and surgeons and specialists of every single discipline ready and available for anything.

“Damar Hamlin is in the best hands anyone could ask for,” he tweeted.

The injury he sustained has yet to be revealed, however, Hamlin is not the only NFL player to sustain unexpected complications in the contact sport.

What NFL says about Hamlin?

In a statement, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that Hamlin’s collapse led to the postponement of the January 2 game.

“Local paramedics and team medical staff provided Hamlin with rapid medical care on the scene.

“He was afterwards taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in a critical condition.

“We are praying for Damar and the Buffalo Bills. As additional information becomes available, we will update this page.”
