What Happened To Rishabh Pant? Car Accident And Injuries Explained

The cricket board of India announced on Wednesday that batsman Rishabh Pant, who was injured in a traffic accident over a week ago, will be flown to Mumbai for surgery.

A few hours north of the Indian capital, in Roorkee, the national team wicketkeeper-batsman was traveling in his Mercedes SUV when it crashed early on Friday morning and caught fire.

The 25-year-old was found on the highway and saved by a bus driver and conductor. He was taken for immediate medical attention at a nearby hospital before being transferred to a cutting-edge clinic in Dehradun.

The BCCI announced that Rishabh would have surgery and further operations to repair ligament tears, and that the BCCI Medical Team would continue to keep an eye on him as he recovered and through rehabilitation.

The athlete suffered injuries to his wrist, ankle, and back in addition to tearing a ligament in his right knee, according to a previous statement from the BCCI.

Shyam Sharma, the director of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), told AFP that Pant was “recovering nicely.”

Pant sustained numerous abrasions, tears in his ligaments, and lacerations, but none of his wounds were life-threatening.

Maverick batsman Pant, a stalwart of the Test team, has contributed significantly to some of India’s most memorable victories over the past three years.

In the lucrative Indian Premier League, he also captains the city squad for Delhi and represents the city on the local stage.

Pant was not selected for the current Sri Lankan T20 and ODI tour a few days prior to the accident.

Days after scoring 93 runs in the second Test against Bangladesh to help India win the match and the series 2-0, he was overlooked.
