Hilary Duff’s song may have been the show’s theme, but the How I Met Your Father actress never watched Laguna Beach.
The 35-year-old actress revealed she couldn’t watch the show while it was airing because her tour schedule kept her so busy.
Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, more commonly referred to as just Laguna Beach, ran for three seasons beginning in 2004 and ending in 2006.

The reality show followed the lives of several students at Laguna Beach High School, and it launched the careers of Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari.
Duff’s song Come Clean, which came out in 2003, served as the show’s theme song during its run.
‘In a moment in time when you could not record TV shows, I was on tour,’ Duff said on Watch What Happens Live. ‘So, I missed a huge chunk of big things that people talk about that I didn’t get to experience. And then my song was the theme song, and I loved that because I lived at MTV for a while.’

Though Watch What Happens Live’s host Andy Cohen suggested Duff got rich off the song, she was quick to clear that up.

‘I definitely didn’t get super rich by them using it as the theme, and I am not going to pretend to know what went on in the background for them to use it,’ she said. ‘But they used it.’
Duff released five studio albums since 2000 with the last one coming out in 2015. Her second album, Metamorphosis, was the most commercially successful, going triple platinum according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

Season 2: The second season of her show How I Met Your Father is currently being rolled out on Hulu with the first episode airing on Tuesday, January 24.
Another one of her songs, titled Sweet Sixteen, served as the theme to another reality television show – My Super Sweet 16.
While she may have been a pop star during the first part of the 2000s, the mother-of-three has been much more focused on acting in recent years.

She’s also set to reprise her role in the Lizzie McGuire reboot where she will once again play the title character.
