Tributes have poured in for 21-year-old Kate Swale, a passenger who died in a horror crash on the M62 motorway outside Liverpool on May 27.

The collision on the road between Junction 5 for Roby and Junction 6 for Tarbock Island in Merseyside on Saturday also left a man and a woman in hospital.

People have since taken to social media to pay their respects to Swale and send condolences to family and friends.

One friend posted a tribute online: ‘How am I even writing this, oh my girl I am going to miss you so much. You never failed to light up any room you walked in. You had the kindest soul and I’m forever grateful to have made some of the most special memories with you.

‘I’ll miss our FaceTimes and our daily texts to each other I wouldn’t of got through life if it weren’t for you, thank you for always being that friend I could count on. Hope your dancing with the stars now our Queen forever21.’

Merseyside Police also offered condolences as they announced that an investigation had been launched into Swale’s death and said that a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Merseyside Police were called to the M62 between the junctions just after midnight on Saturday, May 27, to reports of a crash.

The motorway was closed for almost 11 hours.

A collision was reported between a grey Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Mercedes C180.

Merseyside Police previously confirmed that the man who was receiving medical treatment did not have life-threatening injuries.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit also appealed for help as police launched an investigation into the crash.

He said: ‘Firstly my thoughts and condolences are with the family of the woman who has sadly lost their life in this collision.

‘We have now launched an investigation into her death and her family have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.

‘My investigation team are in the early stages of gathering and examining evidence so that we can provide the family with answers. Although an arrest has been made, our enquiries continue.

‘The help of the public is paramount to assist in the investigation, and I would ask anyone who witnessed this collision or who has any information to please contact us.

‘Alternatively, if you were driving in the vicinity of the M62 between junction 6 to 5 at the time of the crash, I ask that you please check your dashcam footage in case you have captured something which will assist in the investigation.

‘Every piece of information or footage could be vital in establishing what happened.’

Following reports of Swale’s death, many went online to share tributes and kind words.

Liverpool Echo reader Danny Thornley wrote on Facebook: ‘Heart-breaking. Can’t believe it. RIP. We are all thinking of you and your family.’
