Australia’s most decorated living soldier Ben Roberts-Smith has left the country ahead of tomorrow’s decision in his defamation fight.

The 44-year-old has been photographed poolside in Bali at a $500-a-night resort.

It’s believed the Victoria Cross recipient checked into the Indonesian hotel yesterday.

Some expected Roberts-Smith would be at the Federal Court in Sydney tomorrow for the outcome of his defamation claim against three newspapers over allegations he committed war crimes.

The allegations, which include murdering civilians while on deployment in Afghanistan as well as acts of bullying and domestic violence, were first published in reports by The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Canberra Times in 2018.

The trial also heard allegations of domestic violence by Roberts-Smith against a woman known as Person 17.

The SAS veteran attended right throughout the trial, even when his fellow comrades and ex-wife gave evidence against him.

However, he is not legally required to be in court for tomorrow’s decision.
