In a statement, his family expressed their condolences and said Calderón died of natural causes.

He added: ‘They tell me in the streets how much they hate me. But to me, that is my success. Because that means I was able to convince people with what I performed.’

Calderón was raised in a small Mexican community in a tropical region before moving to Mexico City at the age of ten, where he participated in a poetry reading and discovered his passion for acting.

In the 1970 Mexican-filmed film The Bridge in the Jungle, he received his first acting job.

After receiving his Screen Actors Guild card for his performance in the comedy The In-Laws, Calderón relocated to the United States in 1979.

In the 2007 film Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End, he costarred with Johnny Depp in one of his most well-known performances as Captain Vallenueva.

In the 1997 film Men in Black, he is best known for playing the alien’s head on a stick.

A woman once told Calderón that his portrayal in Have You Seen My Son? moved her to tears, and he said he was happy whenever he was recognized on the street in a recent interview.

He added, “If I can make them laugh and cry, then maybe I’m a good actor.”

His children Patrick and Johanna Calderón-Dakin, his wife Karen Dakin, and his grandkids Krishnaavi, Emiliano, and Victoria all survive Calderón.
