As we’ll reveal later, Johnny Depp was never prepared for the clips David Letterman was showing of his films. In truth, fans thought it was Depp just being funny, however, he genuinely doesn’t enjoy watching himself back and in fact, he avoids doing so.

Speaking alongside The Ellen Show, Depp reveals, “I saw part of maybe the first one, I ran out anyway it doesn’t matter,” Depp said laughing.

“I ran out like a scared rat. But this one I did see because it’s the fifth one. I felt [like] if this is [the] last one, I want to make sure we are delivering what we need to deliver to the people because the people, you guys went out and saw the thing three four five times, you deserve to not be spoon-fed formula, so I tried to up the stakes a little”, the actor revealed about the fifth Pirates film.

He continues, “I can’t stand watching myself. If you’re not in it, you should see it.”

Appearing on the Late Show was an intense experience for lots of celebs. Anna Kendrick revealed she always brought her best stories to the show, especially given that she felt intimidated by the host.

Clearly, that wasn’t the case for Johnny Depp – who always seemed to be easygoing alongside Letterman. That was especially evident when Dave would ask his guest to set up clips of his films. Depp never knew what to expect, and fans loved every bit of it.

The memorable reactions have over 23 million views, with fans praising the actor.

“This is not Dave having a hard time with Johnny. It’s Dave knowing exactly what Johnny will say, but still asks the question because it’s funny. Anyone who has followed David Letterman knows this.”

“I love the fact that he NEVER appears arrogant or rude even though other people would probably be perceived that way if they acted the same way. The difference is – he is so SO obviously sincere and gentle and kind we know he’s just being himself and we love him for it. It’s not because he’s a man – it’s because what kind of man he is.”

It was clearly a lighthearted moment between the two, however, not all of Dave’s interviews were as easygoing…

Throughout his time on the Late Show, Letterman had some awkward moments. Among the hardest to watch, included Michael Richards coming on to apologize for his comedy show rant. Richards quickly learned that doing so on the Late Show might not have been the best idea.

“I’m hearing your audience laugh and I’m not even sure this is where I should be addressing the situation.”

Richards continues, “I’ve already heard you make some jokes about it and that’s OK, but I’m really busted up over this and I’m very, very sorry to those people in the audience. Blacks, the Hispanics, the whites, everyone that was there that took the brunt of that anger and hate and rage and how it came through.”

Seeing that Richards was unhappy, Letterman went on to add that he hoped his guest wasn’t upset with the fact that he appeared on his show. Jerry Seinfeld was Letterman’s guest, and felt as though things ‘went well’. However, it was regarded as one of the most awkward moments in Late Show history, and definitely not the platform for such an apology.
